Ontario Soccer recently held its Centre Circle Awards 2020, via a virtual event on November 8th. The Centre Circle Awards recognizes “clubs, academies, leagues, coaches, match officials and administrators who have dedicated a lifetime to the game.” The Centre Circle Awards are typically a Southern Ontario heavy affair, due to the vast disparity in the number & access to training between the North & South. However, this year featured recognition of both Thunder Bay Chill and coach Saverio Lento.

Thunder Bay Chill, Club Recognition Award

Thunder Bay Chill earned the Club Recognition Award, thanks to a nomination by Soccer Northwest Ontario. Established in 2000, the Chill “runs recreational and competitive programs for both men & women, with its top men’s side competing in USL League Two”. Additionally, the club services smaller communities in NW Ontario, running camps in Kenora, Dryden, Fort Frances, Red Lake, and Ignace.

Saverio Lento, Coaches – Soccer 4 Life Award

Saverio Lento earned the Coaches – Soccer 4 Life award, thanks to a nomination by Soccer Northwest Ontario. Lento began his coaching career at the grassroots level in 2002 for the Thunder Bay Chill, and as an instructor at the Soccer Plex. He’s most recently been an PDL assistant coach, PDL goalkeeper coach, and competitive head coach for the Thunder Bay Chill.

Closing

We here are Crater’s Edge would like to congratulate both Thunder Bay Chill & Saverio Lento on their well earned success. We look forward to seeing more from them as they continue to grow soccer in Northern Ontario.
